Work Makes Me Feel Like I’m Drinking Warm Milk

Emma performed her short puppet play “Work Makes Me Feel Like I’m Drinking Warm Milk” as a part of Stop Motion Plant Presents: Community Garden Highlights from the Salon Series 2022-2023. The ensemble Stop Motion Plant hosts Chicago-based experimental/DIY artists through their monthly Salon Series and gives a variety of performance art without a home the room to evolve and grow through audience feedback. Emma first performed “Work Makes Me Feel Like I’m Drinking Warm Milk” as a part of the ensemble’s October 2023 Salon before getting chosen to be included in their highlight show at the end of the year. The piece looks into retail through the eyes of a stressed-out puppet, bringing excitement and humor to the otherwise ordinary and mundane.

Between her first performance in October and the December show, Emma evolved the piece by adding more detail to the crochet hand puppet and making a small set piece to help the wordless production read to the audience.
